Favorite Books

I'll share my favorite books, since Grayson just kind of listens to anything right now.

This book has been one of our favorites since we brought Grayson home. It's a sweet story to read ANYTIME! God Gave Us You also has some other books written by the same author--God Gave Us Two, God Gave Us Christmas, and God Gave Us Heaven. I haven't read any of those others, but I'm sure they would be great as well.

And of course, we just love this book by Robert Munsch. The first time Chad and I read it out loud to Grayson I just couldn't help but cry. He was only a few days old!! It was a sweet time for us.

Colors and Animals and Faces

Abbie has recently really started to like this book. She will lean down and kiss some of her favorite pages, and she loves the pictures of the teacher and children's faces at the end. It's a great way to learn colors and animals and is repetitive but not too much...

favorite author

So I noticed recently that several of my favorite books for LG are by the same author, Mem Fox. I am going to start looking for more by her. These are the ones we have enjoyed so far:

Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes- precious book about babies from all over the world (thanks Janae and Abbie we enjoy this one regularly!)

Where is the Green Sheep?- the illustrations in this book make me laugh, very cute

Time for Bed- I am always looking for "bedtime" books as I like to read those... before bedtime! This is a super sweet one

Usbourne books are favorites of Abbie's. She got one called "Curly's Friends" as a gift when she was born, and it was - and still is among - her absolute favorite books.

These books have patches of different textures, some have flaps as well. Abbie recently was given a farmyard book with feely patches and flaps - and I like that the animals all keep the same names in this series...Curly is always the pig, Daisy is always the cow, etc. These books are geared to help kids learn, and they grow with them. They all have a duck - some have a mouse - that you can search for on every page, and Abbie is just getting the hang of that, so the book is good for infants through a year or two. There is also a series of these I have seen at our library called, "That's not my ..." (fill in the blank ith doll, train, cat, etc.)

Lift-the-Flap

This really isn't a specific book... but just a comment. LG LOVES... I mean LOVES lift-the-flap books. The only problem is that if I leave her alone with them the flaps get quickly torn off! Yikes! I especially feel bad about this when it's a library book... oops...
I found one board book/lift-the-flap at a consignment sale which is awesome, so if you ever stumble across that kind, let me know some titles :o)

Doggies!

Our daughter loves when we read this book to her. She is nearly 4 weeks old and loves to listen to the many different dog barks and woofs! It is short and entertaining!

Babies on the Go

Babies on the Go by Linda Ashman is one of my, and LG's, favorites.

It's about how baby animals are carried or move when they are little and the pictures of the animals are very realistic. It has unusual animals like an anteater and a koala in it which is fun. It also has a really sweet message that I won't spoil for y'all :o)

We've checked this one out at the library several times already.

first 100 words- bright baby

first 100 words by bright baby is an awesome book! It is a large board book with pictures and words on every page of basic things in a baby's life. LG loves looking at all the pictures and will point along as we read out what they are.

This is one of those books that can keep her occupied for a loooong time! (Like 5 mintues! amazing!!)

Welcome to Baby Book Club!

So glad that you've decided to join in on the discussion at Baby Book Club! This blog is designed as to be a community where moms (and dads!) can share some of their kiddos favorite books. It's our hope that through this we'll encourage reading as a family starting at an early age and we'll save ourselves the hassle of trying to constantly figure out what books are good.

If you'd like to become a contributor please email me at teamwylie at gmail dot com and I'll send you an email inviting you to be a contributor. You are also welcome to email me a book recommendation and if I can find it I'll give my review online.

Your postings about favorite books don't have to be fancy!! It's enough to say, "Check out Biscuit Loves School. Emily really loved this book! It has lift-the-flaps on each page which is a favorite for her right now."

We would ask that you please label your post with one of the following categories to make searching easier:

(include the age you'd recommend and it's okay to list more than 1)
infant
1 year
2-3
3-4
4-5
5 and up

AND

(include the type pages)
board book
paper pages
other

AND

(include where you got the book)

Hopefully this will be a helpful way for us all to share reading with our kids!

Blessings,
emily
